Job Overview We are currently seeking a Site Safety Manager for a $58M+ rail project in Hesperia, California. The Site Safety Manager will monitor onsite activities to ensure that all work is conducted safely and efficiently. The manager will work with the Project Manager and Superintendent to help lead the project team to establish and maintain a strong safety culture driven around company values, best practice safety management systems, strong communication, personal accountability, people development, and authentic engagement.
Essential Functions
Coordinate and assist with jobsite orientation and safety training.
Lead site supervisors in the enforcement of safety standards according to IIPP.
Assist and coordinate subcontractor compliance with jobsite safety regulations and requirements.
Lead incident investigations, provide reports, and ensure follow‑up corrective actions are implemented.
Assist with/coordinate weekly toolbox meetings with site supervisors.
Ensure the project safety plan is in place, roles defined, and action plans established.
Coordinate emergency response and ensure employees receive medical treatment.
Maintain jobsite postings in accordance with OSHA/Cal‑OSHA regulations.
Lead and conduct site safety audits in accordance with the project safety plan.
Ensure operations comply with CA MUTCD and temporary traffic control plans.
Assist the Project Manager with submittals.
Provide daily reports and document daily safety inspections of the jobsite.
Assist in ensuring company compliance with Dig Alert (811) ground disturbance tickets/permits in accordance with CA GC4216.
Maintain and update project logs.
Provide safety and security material to personnel.
Assist in procurement, distribution, and training with PPE.
Attend monthly safety meetings held by the owner/agency.
Perform testing on noise, air flow, and air quality, and keep records of the testing.
Other duties as assigned.
Specific Job Knowledge, Skills and Ability
Minimum of 10 years of heavy construction experience.
Minimum of 5 years of safety experience as a safety professional or supervisor in the construction industry (airport construction strongly desired).
Certified in OSHA 30‑hour Construction (valid, unexpired OSHA 30 card within the last 3 years).
Certified OSHA 10‑Hour and 30‑Hour Outreach Instructor (strongly desired).
BCSP Certification (CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, SMP) – strongly desired.
First aid CPR training required; trainer preferred.
Working knowledge of excavations, confined spaces, fall protection, hazard communication, crane & rigging operations, concrete and asphalt paving; and ability to conduct awareness‑level training for each discipline.
Knowledge of causal analysis methods.
Solid interpersonal skills; able to work well with the construction project site team, owners, and construction management firms.
Moderate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Efficient record‑keeping and submittals of required project safety documentation.
Physical Demands
Sitting during study periods, meetings, seminars and training sessions.
Seeing and observing at close proximity and at a distance to make visual assessments at job sites.
Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
Walking job sites and other locations including excavations, scaffolds, roofs, and elevated platforms to observe work.
Listening to conversations and responses at job sites, job offices, and other locations where noise levels are present. Using phones, radios and hand signals.
Handling training and clerical materials and safety equipment.
Operating a vehicle to travel to job site visits and attend meetings on behalf of the company (good driving record required).
Exposure to all weather conditions for extended periods, including hot, cold, wet, and humid conditions, as well as high noise levels and work in elevated or excavated areas.
