Job Description Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.
Mountain Empire Community College invites applications for a pool of adjunct instructors to teach in the Division of Engineering and Industrial Technology. Instructors sought for welding, electrical, mechatronics, HVAC, police science, environmental science, student development, machinist, and CAD. Salary is based on the academic preparation and work experience of the applicant and is determined according to the VCCS Adjunct Pay Schedule.
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom or online environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
Teaching Effectiveness, Academic Preparation, and/or Related Occupational Experience requirements based upon criteria in the VCCS-29: Normal Minimum Criteria for Each Faculty Rank.
Must demonstrate ability to deliver coursework electronically in online environment and utilizing multiple teaching strategies as well as in-person instruction.
Has a thorough understanding of the varied backgrounds and experiences of student populations and the ability to create a sense of belonging, support, and engagement that considers and values all students in curriculum development and teaching.
Proficiency in using computers, relevant software applications, and the institution’s learning management system (LMS) is required.
Additional Considerations
Wide range of coursework in the area of instruction.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology into instruction.
