About AMPERA AMPERA is redefining clean, energy with compact, ultra-safe nuclear systems that power AI, industry, and defense with zero emissions and unmatched reliability. Our modular micro-reactors combine the best of fusion and fission to deliver scalable, deployable, and inherently safe energy anywhere.
As a fast-growing company, AMPERA blends the agility of a startup with the ambition of a global energy innovator. Joining us means becoming part of a bold mission to revolutionize how the world generates power through advanced nuclear design, safety innovation, and next-generation manufacturing.
Position Overview We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Senior Nuclear Engineers to join AMPERA’s advanced reactor development team. These engineers will play a critical role in the design, analysis, and validation of AMPERA’s compact micro-reactor systems — working at the intersection of nuclear physics, thermal-hydraulics, fuel systems, and materials science.
This position offers an opportunity to work on first-of-a-kind technology that combines fusion-fission hybrid principles, advanced materials, and additive manufacturing to deliver the world’s safest, most efficient nuclear energy systems.
Key Responsibilities
Lead reactor system design and performance analysis using modern computational tools (e.g., MCNP, SCALE, RELAP5, OpenMC, or equivalent).
Develop, model, and validate neutron transport, heat transfer, and thermal-fluid interactions for micro-reactor cores.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on the integration of fuel systems, control systems, and structural design.
Evaluate reactor safety through probabilistic risk assessment and transient simulation.
Support regulatory and licensing documentation for compliance with NRC, DOE, or DoD standards.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers within the nuclear design group.
Contribute to experimental testing programs and prototype validation.
Qualifications
M.S. or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
7+ years of experience in nuclear systems design, reactor analysis, or related R&D.
Expertise in neutronics, reactor physics, and/or thermal-hydraulics modeling.
Familiarity with safety codes and design standards (ASME, NRC, DOE, ANSI/ANS).
Experience with small modular reactors (SMRs), micro-reactors, or advanced reactor concepts preferred.
Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
U.S. citizenship or eligibility for security clearance may be required due to project sensitivity.
What We Offer
Competitive compensation.
Comprehensive benefits including healthcare, vision, dental, and 401(k).
Opportunity to help design and deploy breakthrough nuclear systems that power the AI and defense industries.
Collaborative, mission-driven work environment that fosters innovation and technical excellence.
Career growth potential as AMPERA scales to global clean energy impact.
