VHB is growing its Southeast region and is in search of a Structural Engineer - Bridge / Transportation. In this position you would serve in a technical role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation‑related structural projects—from highway to pedestrian to rail—and mentor our structural team. The ideal candidate should possess a "can‑do" attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast‑paced, and fun environment.

Responsibilities

Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects

Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates and calculation packages

Provide technical support / mentorship to structural engineering staff

Perform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents and engineering reports

Assist in preparation of qualification packages, proposals and / or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling

Provide project management support

Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews

Skills & Abilities

Self‑motivated with excellent attention to detail and quality

Strong technical skills in bridge / structural design and critical thinking

Strong organizational and time management skills

Effective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment

Demonstrated excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing

Experience with and motivation to lead and mentor junior staff

Model‑based design experience

Project management skills

Minimum Qualifications

3-5 years of structural bridge design experience (LRFD)

B.S. in Civil Engineering required; emphasis in Structures preferred

EIT certification required; PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred

Project experience with FDOT preferred

Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, and contract documents in accordance with AASHTO, FDOT, local municipalities / counties, and other state DOTs

Familiarity with structural engineering software such as Mathcad, AASHTOWare, FB-MultiPier, Midas Civil, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, FDOT Structures Design Programs

Model-based design experience is a strong plus : Bentley OpenBridge / OpenRoads; AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit / InfraWorks / Inventor
