Structural Engineer - Bridge/Transportation - Orlando or Tampa, FL VHB's structural engineering group plays a vital role in developing and enhancing connectivity through infrastructure projects such as complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitation and inspection, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations. This diverse range of structural engineering services helps improve mobility for the traveling public. VHB was recognized as a 2025 Best Managed Company for its development and innovation. VHB is growing its Southeastern region and is in search of a Structural Engineer - Bridge/Transportation. In this position you would serve in a technical role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation-related structural projects—from highway to pedestrian to rail—and mentor our structural team. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment. Responsibilities
Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates and calculation packages Provide technical support/mentorship to structural engineering staff Perform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents and engineering reports Assist in preparation of qualification packages, proposals and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling Provide project management support Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews Skills & Abilities
Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and quality Strong technical skills in bridge/structural design and critical thinking Strong organizational and time management skills Effective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment Demonstrated excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing Experience with and motivation to lead and mentor junior staff Model-based design experience Project management skills Minimum Qualifications
3-5 years of structural bridge design experience (LRFD) B.S. in Civil Engineering required; emphasis in Structures preferred EIT certification required; PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred Project experience with FDOT preferred Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, and contract documents in accordance with AASHTO, FDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTs Familiarity with structural engineering software such as Mathcad, AASHTOWare, FB-MultiPier, Midas Civil, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, FDOT Structures Design Programs Model-based design experience is a strong plus: Bentley OpenBridge/OpenRoads; AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit/InfraWorks/Inventor About VHB
