Job Summary Information Technology Support Engineers provide advanced technical support and solutions for complex hardware and software issues within the institution. This role involves diagnosing problems, implementing fixes, and collaborating with other IT teams to ensure the reliability and efficiency of technology services provided to faculty, staff, and students.
Responsibilities
Provide advanced technical support for complex hardware and software issues, diagnosing problems and implementing effective solutions.
Document technical processes, configurations, and solutions to create a knowledge base that supports continuous improvement in support services.
Assist in the development and implementation of Information Technology policies, procedures, and standards to ensure consistent and effective support operations.
Conduct training sessions for other Information Technology staff and end‑users on technical topics, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development within the team.
Monitor and analyze system performance, identifying trends and potential issues to proactively address them before they impact users.
Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact on the institution and recommending adoption as appropriate.
Participate in project teams to implement new technology solutions, providing technical expertise and support throughout the project lifecycle.
Prepare and present reports on support activities, metrics, and system performance to management, highlighting successes and areas for improvement.
Collaborate with Information Technology teams to troubleshoot and resolve incidents that require specialized knowledge and expertise in technology systems.
Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced certification may be preferred or required (some profiles may require additional education).
Required Experience: Six or more years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications Additional Preferred Qualifications: Preferred skills include working knowledge of one or more programming language and operational software development methodology.
Preferred Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
Salary Salary range: $75,751 - $105,519

We are looking for someone passionate about innovation in the education industry. This position will play a key role in supporting the research and instruction mission of the College of Engineering. This position will report to the College of Engineering Director of Technology Services and collaborate closely with other IT teams across the College. As part of its duties, this position will help with designing, developing, procuring, and managing technology solutions.
High Desired Experience/Skills:
4+ years of work experience deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting Windows computers in an Active Directory environment via automaton technologies such as SCCM, MDT or equivalent. Similar experience managing macOS and Linux operating systems with tools such as JAMF Pro, Saltstack or equivalent is a great plus. University experience preferred. Knowledge of DFARS and/or NIST 800-171 compliance is a plus.
Experience working with Linux operating systems and macOS is highly desirable. Most of the user base is Windows, followed by Linux and macOS.
Excellent customer service and communication skills and ability to prioritize requests appropriately.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Security‑oriented to ensure that endpoint devices operate securely and efficiently. Individual should have knowledge of firewall rule, IP space, and zone DNS management.
Comfortable provisioning, configuring and maintaining Windows, Linux, and macOS systems, troubleshooting problems, and assisting customers with a variety of support needs. Should be proficient with integrating non‑Windows systems into Active Directory. Should be able to implement or use automaton tools for the management of endpoint systems. Successful candidate must be able to manage and troubleshoot complex networks. Candidate must be able to process warranty repairs through authorized vendors. The ideal candidate will be able to suggest and implement hardware and software solutions to meet researchers needs.
