The Work You Will Do Senior Equipment Operator / District 6 / North Dade Maintenance
Operate vehicles and a variety of large equipment, including road graders, sewer cleaner, and hydraulic excavators in bridge and roadway maintenance.
Perform minor maintenance and servicing work on operated equipment, such as checking and adding fluids, checking/adjusting brakes, and maintaining proper air pressure in all tires.
Assist in repairing operating equipment and clean and wash equipment.
Supervise Department of Corrections inmates crew performing maintenance activities (optional duty).
Oversee crews performing maintenance activities (optional duty if overseeing contracted employees).
Coordinate, participate, and direct the maintenance activity of the assigned crew.
Assist in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
Maintain records of operation and prepare daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and daily vehicle checklists.
Perform independent manual labor incidental to job assignments.
Perform Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
Perform rough carpentry, masonry, painting, and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
Train crew members in the operation of heavy equipment and basic Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Assist with crew activity reports as needed.

Annual Salary Range $44,301.81 - $57,331.75
A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive of $1,976 will be added to the annual salary.
Specific Responsibilities

Communicating verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions.
Ability to:
Operate a variety of heavy equipment.

Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds.
Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend frequently.
Work outdoors in various weather conditions, terrains and heights or in high volume traffic.

Other Job-Related Requirements
Respond to emergencies and be “on‑call” (24‑hour duty) when necessary.
During on‑duty status, operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) consistent with the necessary CDL.
Must possess a valid Class A CDL.
Obtain and maintain Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level certification within one year.
Work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency and four years of infrastructure construction or maintenance experience. An additional year of experience, for a total of five years, can serve as a substitute. A valid Class A CDL is required at time of hire.
This position requires a valid Class (A) driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following:
Three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation.
Any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years.
A suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years.
A suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction in the past four (4) years.
Your driving record will be reviewed and the status of your driver’s license confirmed.
In order to be eligible for hire into a position requiring a Commercial Driver License (CDL), applicants must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Drug and Alcohol (FMCSA) Clearinghouse, as required, for the Department to conduct a pre‑employment query. Register for the Clearinghouse. A mandatory drug screening will be performed on the successful applicant.
