Industrial Engineer – Piston Automotive

The Industrial Engineer is responsible for supervising, formulating, administering, and coordinating industrial engineering policies to improve operating performance, reduce waste, delays, and promote cost reductions company‑wide. Activities include using time study or standard data for machine, assembly, and hand operations, production methods, equipment layout, material handling, and manpower utilization to improve performance. The role supports Engineering Cost Estimators, Purchasing, and all engineering communication internally and with customers, including technical presentations, design reviews, capacity analysis, and feasibility studies. Key responsibilities include initial facility planning, material flow analysis, inventory optimization, broadcast analysis, throughput analysis, simulation (e.g., ProModel) for dock‑to‑dock understanding of facility operations and customer delivery, and collaboration with Packaging Engineers on labor efficiencies, ergonomics, plant layout, and freight optimization.

Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate, and implement assigned projects.

Develop and track capital investment budgets for assigned projects.

Develop RFQs and equipment specifications as needed.

Drive lean concepts (5S, Kanban, Visual Factory, TPM, etc.) throughout the organization.

Implement process improvements to improve overall efficiencies, including automation.

Benchmark processes and equipment throughout the industry and incorporate into Piston Standards.

Problem solve and resolve issues at all sites as directed or required.

Support the team during crisis management.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or related field.

Minimum of 4 years of experience in logistics/supply chain.

4 years of experience with Freight Optimization (Mode, Packaging / Truck Densities, Frequency, Return Ratios).

4 years of experience with Packaging Concepts and Design.

Minimum of 4 years of experience with all Automotive Component Systems: Body, Trim, Chassis, Powertrain, Interior, and Electrical Systems.

Three years of experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and advanced CAD viewers.

4 years of experience with AutoCAD.

Corporate employees must be able to travel as required (typically no more than 1–2 weeks at a time; estimated 6–12 weeks annually).
