Job Description The Department of Art and Design at Binghamton University invites applications for a tenure‑track position in Drawing and Foundations. Candidates should have a dynamic record of research and creative activity that positions drawing as a critical and expansive discipline. The successful applicant will be well versed in contemporary artistic issues, possess a solid technical background, and demonstrate the ability to teach across all levels of a drawing curriculum.
We seek educators who employ innovative pedagogical approaches, commit to inclusiveness and social concerns, and contribute meaningfully to the diversity goals of the School and the University. Candidates who engage both traditional and innovative techniques, value interdisciplinary approaches to arts research and practice, and are inclined to work collaboratively with colleagues will be especially strong applicants.
In addition to teaching a 2/3 course load, the hire will lead the Drawing program, develop curriculum, oversee studios, and nurture collaborative relationships across the department and the School of the Arts. The role also includes developing an interdisciplinary Foundations course and maintaining an active creative practice that foregrounds drawing.
Requirements
MFA or equivalent terminal degree by August 17, 2026
University‑level teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated active creative practice that foregrounds drawing
Fluency in issues related to contemporary drawing
Fluency in historical developments in drawing
Experience teaching in a foundations curriculum
