Position Summary JMT is seeking a motivated Water Resources Project Engineer with 6-10 years of design experience to join the Trenton, NJ group. The Project Engineer will perform various design and permitting tasks in conjunction with, and under the oversight of, senior engineers. The successful candidate will be well‑versed across the water resources discipline with demonstrated design experience in drainage, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management design, H&H modeling, and permitting with the supporting capabilities to perform a variety of design tasks in civil engineering and environmental permitting.

Compensation for this position is $43.00 - $55.00/hourly, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. We notice that we receive a wide variety of applicants and recognize that the person selected may be less experienced or more experienced. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Candidates must be capable of working on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast‑paced team‑oriented environment. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must.

Candidates must be familiar with Federal, State and local jurisdiction design standards and permitting regulations.

Candidates must be capable of completing design tasks including, but not limited to, the development of roadway and site grading plans, drainage design, stormwater management design, erosion and sedimentation control, construction staging and sequencing plans, watershed studies, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, and design/inspection of traditional and innovative green stormwater infrastructure and SWM BMPs in both urban and rural environments.

Candidates will complete assignments through a working knowledge of applicable design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards and processes.

Candidates must be capable of coordinating with contractors, outside consultants, government agencies, and JMT staff from multiple locations and technical disciplines.

Required Experience

Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering with emphasis in Water Resources

6-10 years of experience in Land Development or Water Resources Engineering

Professional Engineer (preferred)

Hydrologic Modeling experience using TR55 / TR20 and Rational Methodologies

Hydraulic Modeling experience using HEC-RAS, HY-8, HydroCAD, Pondpack, StormCAD

Stormwater Management design experience

Erosion and Sediment Control design experience

Microstation Inroads S&S, ORD, AutoCAD Civil 3D design and drafting experience

Contract Document preparation including Plans, Specifications and Cost Estimates

Proficient in MS Office Software

Preferred Experience

Knowledge of New Jersey Department of Transportation design standards and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection permitting processes

2‑D Modeling experience using SWMM or comparable model

Experience with ORD SUDA

Experience with advanced hydraulic modeling.

Working Conditions Work is performed within a general office environment 75% of the time. It is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.

Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening to occasionally conduct site visits, field investigations, or inspections.
