Range 18 - $53,277.47 - $61,266.03(Steps 1-4) Position Summary: The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) is seeking a self-motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as an Admissions Counselor. This position offers a broad and evolving scope of responsibilities that support the goals of the admissions office and, more directly, the work of the Senior Assistant Director of Admissions.Key duties include recruitment travel, application review, timely response to phone and email inquiries, and conducting individual and group meetings with prospective students and their families. The counselor will also actively participate in virtual events, outreach initiatives, and on-campus programming. Evening and weekend availability is required during peak recruitment seasons in the fall and spring semesters.In addition to general admissions responsibilities, the Admissions Counselor may also serve as a liaison to one or more of TCNJ’s academic schools, programs, and/or institutional partnerships, supporting targeted recruitment strategies and communications. This role may also include special projects or initiatives aligned with the evolving priorities of the office, as determined by the Senior Assistant Director and Executive Director of Admissions.A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is essential, as this position contributes meaningfully to TCNJ’s multicultural recruitment and access efforts. The ideal candidate will demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and a collaborative spirit in helping advance the strategic goals of the admissions team. Main Responsibilities:
Recruit first-year and transfer students, with an emphasis on first-year recruitmentRepresent TCNJ at on-campus events, off-campus college fairs and high school visits.Participate in virtual recruitment initiatives, including online information sessions and admissions presentations.Review and evaluate admissions applications in a holistic and timely manner.Manage or support targeted recruitment initiatives for specific student cohorts.Build and maintain strong partnerships with campus stakeholders involved in student recruitment and enrollment efforts. Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.1-2 years of experience in undergraduate admissions at a selective institution, either as a professional staff member or student ambassador.Excellent oral presentation and interpersonal communication skills.Comfort and proficiency engaging with students and families in virtual environments.A valid driver's license and ability to travel for recruitment purposes. Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated leadership experience within the TCNJ community or similarly competitive college environment.Strong written communication skills.Proficiency with technology related to database management and/or marketing and design platforms (e.g., Canva, Adobe, Slate, or similar tools).Highly independent, self motivated and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
