Job Description Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

Follow physicians’ orders precisely and conform to regulations as an ultrasound technologist.

Prepare and assist patients for ultrasound procedures, obtain essential information from patients, medical records, and previous scans for clinical correlation, verify proper patient identification on the study and route it to PACS.

Help patient transfer to the sono exam table and ensure adequate immobilization to perform the scan; perform patient care tasks such as removing excess gel from patient.

Operate the equipment to acquire a variety of imaging results and obtain diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part, maintaining a daily log of patients seen.

Monitor patient reaction to treatment, report changes, and provide patient care with dignity and respect; educate patients about procedures including biopsy.

Practice sterile technique, prevent cross‑contamination, obtain optimum quality images through proper anatomical positioning, probe and frequency selection.

Follow safety procedures including universal precautions; carry out equipment quality control checks and report deficiencies.

Place demographic information in the reading room for interpretation, process studies onto CD or film while maintaining HIPAA compliance.

Maintain familiarity with emergency drugs, equipment location, department booking, scheduling, duplication, and PACS systems; continue education and training.

Promote and follow WMG policies, rules, and regulations; execute related duties as necessary or as assigned.

Work independently and demonstrate flexibility in work assignments; demonstrate commitment to quality management and service excellence.

Required Qualifications

Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.

One active certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or CCI in at least one specialty (Abdomen, OBGYN, Breast, MSK, Fetal Echo, Adult Echo, Vascular, Pediatric).

Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty(ies).

Superior diagnostic imaging skills and excellent patient and people skills.

Strong knowledge of human cross‑section anatomy, proper positioning skills, and protocol utilization.

Ability to maintain continuing education credits and professional licenses required by the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Environmental Protection, and ARDMS.

Pay Range $42.12 - $52.69 Hourly
