This person works as a team to provide food service that is safe, accurate, timely and responsive to the customer and patient’s needs.
Food service includes stocking, assembling, and serving portion‑controlled hot and cold food, replenishing and stocking stations, and cleaning and sanitation of food service areas and equipment in a safe manner.
The role may include retail, patient, catering, sanitation, and storeroom responsibilities.
Retail Food Service duties include serving, cashiering, bussing and barista work.
Patient Food Services cover assembly and delivery of patient meal trays.
Catering Food Services include setup, serving and cleanup of catering events across UCSF Health sites.
Sanitation Services comprise detailed kitchen equipment deep cleaning, floor and floormat cleaning, waste sorting and removal, dishroom and potroom duties.
Storeroom responsibilities involve receiving, rotating, stocking and issuing food and supplies to support food service operations within Nutrition & Food Services and units throughout UCSF Health, and maintaining vendor relationships.
This position may handle cash, credit card and debit card transactions.
Initial hourly rate: $32.18 (subject to UC policy approvals).
Pay range: $32.18 – $32.18 per hour.
Location: San Francisco, CA – Parnassus Heights (SF).
Shift: Days, evenings, nights, weekends, variable; 8‑hour shifts.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years of customer‑facing experience within the food service, hospitality or retail industries
Read, write, follow written or oral instructions, and be understood in English
Basic computer skills
Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
Ability to meet physical demands involved with job duties
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of college or equivalent education
State of California Food Handler certification or ServSafe certification
