Position Overview We are seeking a skilled and motivated Head Bartender to lead our bar program at Golden Ratio. The Head Bartender is a working lead who embodies Redwood Hospitality’s values of Growth, Sustainability, Accessibility, Excellence, Genuine Hospitality, and Education, while setting the tone for our cocktail experience.
This role combines service excellence with operational responsibility : you’ll be behind the bar during service, but also trusted as a key holder responsible for opening / closing, managing prep and pars, maintaining inventory systems, and ensuring the bar runs smoothly day-to-day.
Key Responsibilities Bar Leadership & Service
Lead bar during service, delivering consistent, high-quality cocktails with genuine hospitality.
Act as a role model for the bar team, setting expectations for professionalism, speed, and excellence.
Support and train bartenders, barbacks, and servers on cocktail knowledge and bar standards.
Key Holder Duties
Open and close the bar in alignment with Redwood Hospitality standards.
Secure cash, complete closing checklists, and send end-of-night reports as required.
Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization of the bar at all times.
Bar Prep & Inventory
Prepare syrups, juices, garnishes, and other cocktail ingredients daily with attention to detail and consistency.
Maintain pars for cocktail prep items and communicate needs proactively to management.
Conduct regular bar inventory (spirits, beer, wine, NA, and prep items).
Track usage and work with management on purchasing and COGS targets.
Guest Experience
Champion genuine hospitality - creating a welcoming and memorable environment for every guest.
Engage guests with knowledge of cocktails, spirits, and the bar’s creative direction.
Resolve guest issues thoughtfully and quickly in collaboration with management.
Collaboration & Administration
Work with management team to implement bar systems and uphold Redwood’s values.
Assist with new cocktail rollouts, staff education, and menu updates.
Uphold all NYC DOH regulations and internal safety / cleanliness standards.
Qualifications
2+ years bartending experience, with at least 1 year in a lead or senior role.
Strong knowledge of cocktails, spirits, and bar operations.
Ability to lead by example while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
Experience with opening / closing procedures, cash handling, and inventory.
Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in communication.
Passion for hospitality, education, and continuous growth.
