What You Will Do The 201 MHz High‑Power RF (HPRF) team at LANSCE is seeking an Engineered Systems Technician for the High Powered Radio Frequency (HPRF) team. The AOT division maintains, operates, and upgrades all accelerator systems used at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) complex, including two 750‑keV injector systems, a 201.25‑MHz drift‑tube linear accelerator, an 805‑MHz coupled‑cavity linear accelerator, a proton storage ring, and approximately one kilometer of beam transport lines that deliver beam to five independent research programs. As a member of the AOT‑RFE High Power Engineering team you will support operation, maintenance and upgrades of high‑power Radio Frequency amplifier systems around the accelerator, collaborate in the design of new equipment for future upgrades, and provide on‑call support for the LANSCE high‑power RF amplifier systems after hours and on weekends.
Responsibilities
Operate, maintain, and commission high‑power RF equipment.
Troubleshoot and repair RF and electrical systems.
Assist in the design of upgrades and new systems.
Provide on‑call support during off‑hours and weekends.
Qualifications Minimum Job Requirements
Experience with electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters).
Ability to read and understand basic electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.
Prototyping of electronic chassis, including mechanical changes and wiring.
Installation, maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical/electronic equipment.
Strong teamwork and written communication skills.
Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar CAD programs to view schematics and drawings.
Desired Qualifications
Forklift and crane operations.
Soldering of fine‑pitch, surface‑mount components.
Experience with RF test equipment (network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, RF power meters).
Knowledge of high‑voltage and high‑power equipment (transformers, capacitor banks, rectifiers, power supplies).
Pulsed power systems (modulators, fast‑switching high‑voltage systems).
RF systems using solid‑state or tube amplifiers in the low MHz to UHF range.
Circuit‑layout simulation (PSpice, Multisim, LTSpice).
Water‑and‑air‑cooling‑system operation and maintenance.
Education / Experience Engineered Systems Tec 3: Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a related field and 3 years of related experience. Engineered Systems Tec 4: Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a related field and 5 years of related experience; additional training and/or certification may be expected.
Salary ranges:
Engineered Systems Tec 3 ($64,700 – $101,400) ,
Engineered Systems Tec 4 ($71,200 – $112,900)
Work Environment and Location The work location is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. This is a full‑time position requiring at least one year of continuous service in the current role before eligibility to apply for other LANL positions.
