nLab
Social Media Strategist & Content Manager
Contract (Pre-Launch Sprint: Nov–Jan, with option to extend)
Remote / Flexible
About nLab nLab makes hands‑on electronics and engineering accessible to everyone. We designed the world’s smallest electronics lab — a pocket‑sized tool and 200+ component kit used at universities including Northwestern. After selling thousands of kits to universities and winning awards at multiple competitions, we’re now bringing it directly to consumers through a Kickstarter launch in late January.
Our mission: There are more electronics jobs than ever — but not enough people with the skills to fill them. We’re making learning electronics easier, more affordable, and globally accessible with free beginner‑friendly, hands‑on tutorials, while also sharing the real, human journey of building something meaningful — full of curiosity, mistakes, humor, and growth.
Our team includes content creators, designers, engineers, and app/web developers. We’re now looking for someone to lead social media, content development, and brand voice across platforms.
Role Overview We’re hiring a full‑service social media strategist and content manager to lead all content efforts leading up to the Kickstarter launch. You won’t just “manage” social media — you’ll own the entire process:
Writing scripts, hooks, captions
Guiding what and how to film
Editing videos (long‑form + shorts), adding graphics, text overlays, and animation
Scheduling posts & managing community engagement
Your content will balance:
Real behind‑the‑scenes of building this business
Humorous, relatable interactions between the founding team
Career advice and personal stories from teaching and engineering
Adventure, exploration, and maker joy
The founders’ story (a married duo who teach and build this business together) is part of the brand — authentic, not cheesy clickbait.
Responsibilities
Develop an 8–10 week pre‑launch social media strategy to build momentum for Kickstarter
Plan a multi‑platform posting schedule: YouTube, TikTok, Instagram Reels, Discord
Hold founders accountable for filming deadlines and content needs
Include clear CTAs for email list, Discord, and YouTube subscribers
Content Creation (Full Ownership)
Write concepts, scripts, hooks, captions, and shot lists
Guide founders on filming (angles, tone, delivery) — your direction, they film
Edit content: YouTube shorts, long‑form videos, and repurposed clips
Add graphics, text overlays, light animation, or motion elements as needed
Content Themes You’ll Lead
Career and industry insights (engineering jobs, teaching, breaking into hardware)
Founder life: honest behind‑the‑scenes building a business — successes, failures, humor, teamwork
Adventure and exploration (travel, nature, creative problem‑solving)
Light support on electronics & robotics projects from the nLab Starter Kit
Community & Growth
Manage Discord and YouTube community engagement
Track analytics, adjust content for growth, retention, conversions
Measurable Deliverables (What Success Looks Like) Content Output
1 long‑form YouTube video every 1–2 weeks (8–12 minutes)
Weekly posting calendar + content briefs/shot lists delivered in advance
All videos fully edited — includes cutting, text overlays, graphics, basic animation
Audience Growth & Engagement
Grow YouTube channel from 1,000 → 2,500+ subscribers
Build TikTok/Instagram organically to 5,000+ followers
Increase average Shorts/Reels views to 10k+ per video, with some reaching 50k+
Grow Discord community to 300+ active members
Increase email subscriber list to 5,000+ pre‑launch sign‑ups
Add tracking across platforms to determine where email sign‑ups are coming from
Brand & Workflow
Maintain pre‑launch content roadmap (8–10 weeks) including brand pillars, posting frequency, and platform strategy
Build and organize content library: scripts, B‑roll, templates, graphics, intros/outros
Maintain shared content calendar + task checklist
Own communication with team: editorial updates, deliverables, analytics reviews
What You’ll Gain
Lead the entire content and brand voice for a real Kickstarter launch
Build a high‑visibility portfolio of videos, campaigns, and measurable growth
Develop a full brand for a product that educates, sparks joy, and changes lives
Document a real journey — not just polished marketing, but authentic storytelling
Work with a team that values creativity, curiosity, humor, and impact
In addition to base compensation, you’ll receive 2.5% of Kickstarter funds raised as a bonus, contingent on satisfactory completion of agreed‑upon deliverables
Proven track record growing social accounts, communities, or Kickstarter campaigns
You can plan, write, film‑direct, and edit content independently
Deep understanding of YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Discord
You value authenticity over clickbait
You’re organized, creative, and take ownership of your work
Bonus: you love making things, teaching, or exploring the world
How to Apply Please send:
Links to campaigns, accounts, or videos you’ve helped grow (with metrics/results if possible)
Examples of content you’ve conceptualized, edited, or produced
A brief response to: “If you were managing nLab’s social media Kickstarter pre‑launch, how would you structure content and engagement?”
Why You / Why nLab:
Why are you a strong fit for this role?
Why does nLab’s mission and story resonate with you?
Thanks very much for reading, we’re so excited to hear from you!
