An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join a dynamic team of Consultants at the Eye Unit of the Royal United Hospital.

The post is for a replacement consultant to join the team. A special interest in cornea is desirable, although other special interest to complement the department would be considered.

Main duties of the job Applicants should be highly experienced cataract surgeons capable of high throughput surgery and able to perform other general ophthalmic surgical procedures commensurate with their experience and special interest. The post holder will be expected to do their share of general ophthalmology along with the current consultants as well as doing clinics and operating lists in their area of interest.

The post will be based at the RUH and at community clinics. There is a strong commitment to peripheral clinics. Clinics are currently provided in the following towns; Chippenham, Trowbridge and Frome. The holder will participate in audit and directorate meetings and undertake administrative duties as required by the Lead Clinician of Ophthalmology.

A commitment to maintain professional expertise by attendance at meetings and courses is expected, and completion of diaries for CME is essential. It is also essential that you have an annual appraisal.

An interest in research and teaching is expected with participation in projects, courses, etc. to enhance the standing and role of the Department and Trust.

FRCOphth, Full Licence, GMC Registration

Higher Degree

Knowledge

Competent to perform high volume cataract surgery

A fellowship in cornea

Skills

Experience of supervising junior doctors. Ability to teach clinical skills.

Experience of supervising SPRs.
