Position Purpose The Technical Director is responsible for directing and managing the design and implementation of technical systems throughout the lifecycle of a project. The Technical Director shepherds technical concepts throughout the design, engineering, fabrication, and delivery process and is empowered to speak on behalf of the original technical vision and requirements. The TD partners closely with all project members throughout the project lifecycle; teamwork, communication, and buy‑in on technical solutions from all partners are vital to successful technical delivery.

Essential Responsibilities

Domain knowledge of all technical aspects of a project, commonly including audio, video, lighting, control, rigging, mechanical, and scenic elements.

Provide technical overview and responsibility for suitability of the designed system to meet the client’s vision.

Ensure safety standards, policies, and procedures are followed, both in design and installation.

Deliver technical solutions that match project schedule and budget.

Work closely with partners to iterate designs and ensure correct processes.

Provide progress updates to the client as required.

Identify and incorporate site requirements into the overall technical design.

When required, liaise and interface with external agencies and partners throughout the project to ensure technical compliance and information sharing.

Minimum Qualifications

HS Diploma/G.E.D.; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

5+ years experience in production and delivery of multiple projects.

Functional competencies in technical production (staging, rigging, show action, audio, lighting, video).

Previous experience leading technical project teams.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Working knowledge of CAD programs.

Familiarity with software systems such as MS Office, Google Suite, Adobe, Airtable, Asana, Slack, MS Teams, Zoom.

Heavy equipment certification, a plus.

OSHA 10 and 30 certification, a plus.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Travel: National and international travel may be required (approximately 30‑50%). May require extended relocation for construction, installation, commissioning and programming phases.

Work conditions: Moderate exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, loud noises. Follow basic safety precautions and use appropriate PPE.

Work may include office environments, assembly facilities, and active construction sites.

Salary $100 - 115k commensurate with experience.
