What it's like to be a Maintenance Director As the Full-Time Maintenance Director for the City of Pharr, you will develop and implement city policies for building and grounds maintenance. You will plan and direct preventative maintenance schedules, emergency repairs, and capital improvement projects, ensuring the upkeep of facilities and green spaces. You will oversee maintenance standards, safety practices, and operational procedures to ensure public environments are aesthetically pleasing, safe, and functional. Responsibilities include evaluating the performance of maintenance staff, managing operating and capital budgets, and coordinating efforts with other city departments for seamless service delivery. As the primary liaison with architects and contractors, you will lead facility upgrades and landscaping projects while ensuring compliance with codes and regulations.

Your analytical skills will be crucial in assessing conditions and making strategic recommendations for improvements, enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Pharr.

Qualifications and Requirements To excel as the Full-Time Maintenance Director for the City of Pharr, you will need:

Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Minimum of five (5) years in facilities and grounds maintenance, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.

Familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and landscaping systems; knowledge of applicable building and environmental codes.

Proficiency with facility management software, work order systems, and Microsoft Office Suite; strong project management and organizational skills.

Ability to respond to emergencies and manage crisis situations; bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.

Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with satisfactory driving record.

Knowledge and Skills Required for the Position

Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited college or university.

Completion of FEMA ICS Courses 100, 200, 700, and 800 required.

Completion of ICS 300 and 400 preferred or required within six (6) months of employment.

Minimum of five (5) years of facilities/grounds maintenance experience, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.

Experience with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction, landscaping, and irrigation systems.

Knowledge of building and environmental codes and regulations (OSHA, ADA, fire safety, EPA standards, etc.).

Proficiency with facility management software, work order systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong project management, organizational, and leadership skills.

Ability to respond to emergencies during off-hours.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Must hold a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record.
