Role description Arcadis is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) System Design Engineer to join our Resilience Water team in Detroit, MI. This is an exciting opportunity to lead projects with a variety of I&C, automation system design, and SCADA integration for environmental remediation, industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment, conveyance systems, and facilities.

Role accountabilities This role provides engineering and design services to produce design & construction documents for projects, coordinating with process, mechanical, and electrical engineers and preparing technical memorandums. Responsibilities include:

Supporting projects and clients in the planning, design and construction of water/wastewater facilities and other similar industrial facilities, serving as Arcadis’ main point of contact for I&C needs.

Project Managing all facets of projects, including budgeting, planning, cost estimating, and design and execution of SCADA and instrumentation & control systems.

Supporting electrical engineering and developing electrical design for I&C systems, conducting factory, acceptance, field checkout, and startup testing of I&C and SCADA systems.

Programming PLCs, configuring graphical HMI for SCADA, and setting up historical data collection and reporting.

Mentoring junior engineers and designers.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Environmental Engineering or a closely related field.

7+ years of I&C, Automation, and SCADA system design and implementation experience in the water/wastewater market.

Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain one within 12 months.

Key Skills and Attributes

Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.

Exceptional communication, teamwork, and multiple assignment management skills.

Advanced knowledge in instrumentation & controls, SCADA networks, fiber optics, radio, cellular telemetry, and industrial IT networks.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; willingness to travel (25%).

Preferred Qualifications

10+ years of experience in developing bid and construction documents.

PLC/HMI programming, configuration & startup experience.

Salary range: $80,461 – $132,761 (actual salaries vary).
