Position Title: Associate or Full Professor, Empire Innovation Professor, Biomedical Engineering
The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at University at Buffalo invites candidates for the position of Associate Professor or Full Professor to be known as Professor of Empire Innovation. Candidates will receive support through the SUNY Empire Innovation Program (EIP) which recognizes high caliber faculty with proven track records of externally funded research.
We invite applications from prominent leaders in AI and Biotechnology. Priority will be given to research areas such as AI‑assisted diagnostics, AI‑accelerated drug discovery and development, AI‑enabled personalized medicine, AI‑optimized healthcare delivery, and AI‑enhanced biomanufacturing.
Responsibilities
Maintain an active research program and secure external funding.
Teach graduate and undergraduate courses.
Mentor graduate students and advise students at all levels.
Collaborate with scientists, engineers, clinicians across the university and with external institutes such as the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, the Gates Vascular Institute, the Jacobs Institute, the New York State Center for Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Great Lakes Cancer Care Collaborative.
Participate in the newly launched Innovation Hub to commercialize technology and launch new companies.
Minimum Qualifications
A PhD or MD/PhD in biomedical engineering or a closely related field.
Excellence in research, teaching, service, and mentoring.
Internationally recognized scholarship or evidence of sustained externally funded research programs.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong record in AI and biotechnology research.
Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and technology commercialization.
