The Visitor Services Coordinator (VSC) at the Museum of Culpeper Museum (MCH) is responsible for ensuring a positive and seamless visitor experience. Duties extend beyond basic customer service and involve a wider range of tasks due to our limited staff size. Hourly, part-time position at $15.00 - $17.00 per hour, up to 25 hours per week that answers directly to the Executive Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work most weekend shifts
, Saturdays (10-4) and Sundays (1-4) and whenever the front desk volunteers are unable to fill their scheduled shifts (Monday-Friday, 10-1; 1-4). Note: coordinator can bring in weekend volunteers as needed – but must guarantee that all shifts are covered
Supervise, train and schedule front-line (museum desk) volunteers
Set the volunteer’s monthly schedule by the 15 th of the previous month; fill in blank shifts by communicating with the list of volunteers prior to the month in question
Recruit new volunteers, train each new class of volunteers
Oversee the monthly volunteer meeting, disseminate new information, volunteer manuals, etc.
Train volunteers in all aspects of front desk procedures, tours, protocols, best practices, etc. Encourage volunteers to listen to visitors, and ask questions of visitors (i.e. where are you from, what did you learn today during your visit, etc.)
Develop volunteer appreciation activities (holiday dinner, “meet the board” breakfasts, field trips [2x a year], etc.)
Manage the museum shop
Become proficient with Square and Zeffy
Create weekly shop-related social media
Order products
Develop new product ideas (which then go before the Executive Director [ED])
Maintain inventory, process weekly sales and visitor reports
General Operations
Assist with administrative tasks (replace forms, visitor logs, phone log, etc.)
Maintain a clean and organized environment in the museum and at front desk
Collect visitor input for the ED (prior to the Board meeting)
Report any issues (HVAC, displays, machine malfunctions, etc.)
Provide information about the museum, exhibits, and local area. Present knowledge of the museum’s story and be able to answer questions and offer recommendations for further information
Manage museum social media (not for program or events)
Lead tours as requested
Assist the Education Coordinator upon request and when feasible
May have to work some scheduled night or weekend events
Experience
Knowledge of social media platforms
Working knowledge of basic office equipment (phones, copiers, fax, etc.)
General knowledge or interest in Culpeper history
