Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Duties

This Advanced Practice Nurse position is in Surgical Care Service at the VA Providence Healthcare System - located at the Providence location

This position is full-time at 40 hours per week

The incumbent practices in Surgical Service as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality - timeliness - and the advancement of the VA mission

The NP provides advanced clinical practice - consultation - and management

The NP practices to the full extent of their education - training - and certification

Core functions are outlined in the clinical privileges that correspond with this position

The NP has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients or program as indicated by their position

Included but not Limited to: Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice

Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management

Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with Surgical Attendings and residents as well as other interdisciplinary team members

Orders and interprets diagnostic studies

Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions

Initiates referrals/consults to specialty services

Provides education to patients and their families

Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes

Assists in pre-operative and post-operative planning and care of surgical patients across a range of surgical specialties such as General Surgery - Vascular Surgery - Head and Neck - Gynecology - Orthopedics - Urology - Plastic Surgery - etc

This position is in the Excepted Service

Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50 - (Notice of Personnel Action)

The SF-50 must identify the position title - series - grade - step - tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted)

In some cases - more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held
