Overview
Meet HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding. With more than 25,000 employees, NNS is the largest industrial employer in Virginia and the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. This position applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems. US Citizenship is required for this position. This role is full-time with shift: 1st; relocation assistance available; not eligible for telework. Travel required: 10%-25%. Clearance not required to start. The position supports the U.S. Navy’s Gerald R. Ford Class Aircraft Carrier propulsion plant planning yard (PPPY). The Engineered Components team maintains the design of complex mechanical and electrical machinery within the propulsion plant, including steam turbines, gearsets, diesel engines, electric generators, heat exchangers, pumps, and motor and valve controllers. PPPY supports aircraft carrier new construction, testing and delivery; in-service maintenance; and fleet operations. Responsibilities include procurement of new machinery and technical support of in-service machinery, defining design objectives, establishing specifications and requirements, overseeing suppliers, and ensuring on-time delivery of technically compliant products. Technical support includes liaising with shipyard and Navy personnel, assisting with ship construction and repair, providing advanced troubleshooting guidance, and identifying design improvements and maintenance practices. Strong technical writing, proactive issue resolution, and collaboration with Navy personnel, supply partners, shipyard trades, engineers, project managers, and business professionals are required.
