Symetra's Investment Accounting department has an exciting new opportunity to join us as a Senior Financial Reporting Analyst !
About the role
As a
Senior Financial Reporting Analyst,
you will be responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of investment-related financial data in accordance with both GAAP and Statutory reporting guidelines. You'll be working within the company's traditional investment portfolio, including fixed income securities, public equities, and other Schedule D assets.
What you will do
Participate in the company's accounting close and reporting cycles, including preparing journal entries, financial analytics, management reports, and reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy.
Analyze complex investment transactions and ensure accurate accounting treatment in compliance with GAAP, statutory, and regulatory standards.
Support the preparation of Schedule D and other statutory filings related to traditional assets.
Collaborate with internal teams, external auditors, and Symetra's third-party vendor to resolve complex accounting and reporting issues.
Work closely with GAAP and statutory reporting teams to ensure accurate financial disclosures and appropriate presentation.
Research and document accounting issues, and assist in drafting and updating accounting policies and analyses.
Support cash operations and cash custody deliverables.
Identify areas for process improvement, contribute to special projects, and implement solutions in collaboration with project leads.
Produce high-quality deliverables with minimal guidance, incorporating feedback to improve outcomes.

Compensation
Salary Range: $77,600 - $129,400 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.
Who You Are:
High School Diploma is required.
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master's degree or MBA is a plus)
5+ years of experience in public accounting (Big 4 preferred), insurance, or finance, with a focus on mortgage loan reporting
Strong understanding of investment products and insurance industry standards (STAT and GAAP)
Experience with investment accounting systems (Clearwater, PAM, etc.)
Proficient in Microsoft Excel
Highly analytical with excellent communication skills
Skilled in process improvement and able to think creatively to solve problems
Comfortable working in a fast-paced and challenging environment
Team-oriented with a growth mindset and a desire to continuously improve
Proven ability to explain complex investment accounting concepts clearly to various audiences, including external vendors
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
Willing and able to work a flexible schedule during peak periods (e.g., quarter-end, year-end, special projects)
