Overview This is a training position in which the incumbent will attend the Law Enforcement Academy. The trainee will be responsible for completing the City Police Officer Trainee Program and will become a certified police officer for the City.

Responsibilities Police Officers, under general direction, perform duties such as foot patrol and motorized patrol within the City of Casselberry; prevent crime; detect and arrest perpetrators of crimes; regulate traffic; provide public assistance; and perform all additional functions for the rank as prescribed by relevant laws, city ordinances, departmental rules and regulations, orders and directives of the Police Department.

Eligibility and Qualifications

Be at least 19 years of age for law enforcement and correctional probation.

Be at least 18 years of age for corrections.

Be a citizen of the United States.

Have earned a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Have not been convicted of any felony or any misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement.

Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to, or is found guilty of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, not-withstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication.

Have never received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.

Have good moral character.

Have successfully completed the Florida Basic Recruit Training Program for the respective discipline or completed the Equivalency of Training process.

Have achieved a passing score on the State Officer Certification Examination.

Have been fingerprinted by the employing agency with prints processed by the FDLE and the FBI.

Have successfully passed a background investigation, to include drug testing.

Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician, physician assistant, or certified advanced registered nurse practitioner.

Qualify in a physical fitness test.

Qualify in an oral review board.

Qualify in a CVSA interview/examination.

Qualify in a physical examination and medical testing administered by the City of Casselberry approved agent prior to employment.

Qualify in a drug screen test.

Qualify in a psychological fitness test administered by the City of Casselberry approved agent prior to employment.

Application Process

Applicants MUST complete the Online Application and the Supplemental Questions. If you do not have access to a computer with Internet, there is one available at your local library.

The Recruitment Section will review your Online Application and the Supplemental Questions. If you do not meet the minimum standards, you will be notified. If you do meet the minimum standards, you will be notified and an Application Packet will be emailed to you.

The Application Packet must be completed either in Adobe and printed or printed and typed. Handwritten documents will not be accepted. The Packet must be complete with all required documents attached, signed, notarized (where applicable) and returned to the Casselberry Police Department by the designated date.

The Recruitment Section will review your Application Packet. If you do not meet the minimum standards, you will be notified. If you do meet the minimum standards, you will be notified and invited to participate in the oral board interview, submit a writing sample, and take the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).

The oral board interview and writing sample will be conducted in the Casselberry Police Department multi-purpose room on a predetermined date. Applicants that successfully pass the oral board interview and writing sample will be permitted to complete the PAT.

The PAT will follow the oral board interview and writing sample and will be at Secret Lake Park. Maps and directions will be provided. Applicants will be notified immediately of their test time. (The parameters of the PAT are available from the Casselberry Police Department.)

The Recruitment Section will compile all applicants' files and determine who will proceed to a background review, be held for further consideration, or be removed from the process. All applicants will be notified of their status.

The background process will be handled by the Support Services Corporal and the Casselberry Investigations Section. This process will include, but is not limited to, a voice stress examination; a fingerprint comparison; a neighborhood check and a review of your employment, driving, credit, criminal history and drug usage. Dates and times associated with this process are at the discretion of the background investigators. Applicants with acceptable backgrounds will advance to the Chief's Interview.

The Chief's Interview will be conducted at the discretion of the Chief of Police. The Chief's Administrative Services Coordinator will contact the applicant to schedule the interview. The Chief will select applicants that are recommended for Conditional Employment Offers, held for further consideration, or removed from the process. All applicants will be notified of their status by email or phone.

Applicants that are given a Conditional Employment Offer will advance to the final step.

The final step consists of a medical physical, drug screen and physiological review of the applicant. Applicants that fail any part of this step will be removed from employment consideration. Applicants that pass all parts of this step will be authorized for a full-time position with the Casselberry Police Department. The Support Services Sergeant will coordinate the starting date with the new officer and the City of Casselberry Human Resources department.
