Position Summary This job is a temporary Environmental Educator position at Camp Jekyll located on Jekyll Island, Georgia. The primary responsibility is to independently lead K-12 grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting. Class subjects include life science, earth science, ecology, and marine science. Additional duties include animal care, maintenance of teaching areas and resources, facilities, grounds, and general operations support.

Responsibilities

Lead and teach K-12 grade students in multidisciplinary outdoor classes focusing on coastal ecology, life science, earth science, and marine science.

Manage general center operations: maintenance and upkeep of facilities, vehicles, dining hall support, and projects as needed.

Provide animal care, husbandry, and maintenance for residential education reptiles, amphibians, marine invertebrates, coastal fishes, and other wildlife.

Support staff responsibilities for ongoing reservations and guests.

Required Education and Certification

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Education, Environmental Education, Forestry, Natural Resources, Outdoor Education, Science, or a related field.

First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Teaching qualities: commitment, genuine interest in youth development, passion for education, enthusiasm for lifelong learning, and ability to connect students with meaningful nature experiences.

Work qualities: dynamic personality, well‑developed communication skills, positive attitude, creativity, leadership ability, integrity, relationship‑building, and a desire for growth.

Ability to teach a wide variety of subjects to K-12 grade youth.

Group management skills for adults and students.

Broad knowledge of outdoor education and willingness to learn new content.

Effective communication with youth and adults.

Customer service and hospitality/food industry experience.

Teamwork and independent work capability.

Flexibility and adaptability.

Ability to care for live teaching animals.

Capability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold.

Physical Demands Work exposed to outdoor elements; willing to lift 20-40 pounds and walk approximately 3 miles daily; driving required.
