We invite applications for a
Inpatient Consultative Hematologist Oncologist
position with the MaineHealth Cancer Care Network (MHCCN) at the Maine Medical Center (MMC) in Portland, Maine.
Description MHCCN is a statewide, integrated cancer care network serving more than 6,800 analytic cancer patients annually across Maine and eastern New Hampshire. The network partners with 12 hospitals and holds accreditation with ASCO QOPI, COC, NAPBC, and NAPRC. The MMC is a Level I trauma center and a Tufts University School of Medicine affiliate with a full complement of residencies and fellowships.
Responsibilities
Provide in‑patient consultative Hematology‑Oncology services across MMC, managing consultations from all services.
Support inpatient‑to‑outpatient transitions of care, including navigation and coordination.
Faculty teaching of fellows, residents, and medical students on the consult rotation.
Participate in a monthly schedule of 19 dedicated virtual board meetings covering multiple cancer types, including hematologic malignancies.
Engage in a robust research program through MHCCN’s membership in the NCI’s Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) and serve as PI or sub‑PI on clinical trials.
Work 40 weeks annually, Monday‑Friday, 8 am‑5 pm, with APP and/or fellow support; rotation schedule of 3 weeks on, 1 week off.
Contribute to a state‑of‑the‑art acute hematology unit; the consultative physician will not manage this service.
Participate in an average 1:8 weekend/weeknight call schedule.
Qualifications
MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
Completed fellowship in Hematology‑Oncology or board‑certified in either specialty.
Minimum 3 years of experience providing inpatient Hematology‑Oncology care.
Strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and teamwork orientation.
Opportunity for flexible schedules with minimal outpatient in‑basket responsibilities and modest call burden.
