Shelter Access Specialist, Men’s Inn
Schedule:
40 hours, Wednesday–Sunday, 10:45 PM–7:15 AM.
Pay:
$21.40 per hour, DOE.
Location:
444 Harrison Ave – Boston, MA.
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
The Shelter Access Specialist will be primarily responsible for maintaining an exceptional customer‑service oriented environment, welcoming guests, staff and visitors in person, responding to guest and neighbor concerns and questions in a timely, professional and responsive manner, operating an electronic entry monitoring system ID scanning via Clarity technology, reporting all activities of the shift, creating guest IDs and frequent entry into the Pine Street data system, maintaining friendly and efficient front‑entry operations in a busy, unpredictable environment, and collaborating frequently with on‑site security services as well as other Pine Street programs and departments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Shelter Access Specialist will assist shelter guests in accessing services such as food, clothing, medical care, and referral needs. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring there is a safe and secure environment for guests and staff at the Men’s Inn by attending to all safety and security policies, intervening with assistance around substance abuse issues and mental illness, job training and educational needs, assessing guests’ needs and assets to make appropriate transitional and housing referrals, and being an available resource for guests to assist them in their efforts to obtain permanent housing.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
High School diploma or GED (required).
Valid MA driver’s license in good standing (preferred).
Bilingual English/Spanish (preferred).
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the Human Services field (required).
Administering Narcan and CPR in a work setting (preferred).
Knowledge of addiction, recovery, and mental illness (preferred).
Knowledge of issues pertaining to the homeless (preferred).
Knowledge of area resources (preferred).
