Senior Quality Software Test Automation Engineer Job Description

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to Warre, MI; Austin, TX; Mountain View, CA three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

We are looking for an exceptional and experienced Software Quality Engineer excited about ensuring high quality web and mobile products across General Motors. The ideal candidate is an expert in automated testing, particularly with BrowserStack, and has a deep understanding of web and mobile application testing, CI/CD pipelines, and cross‑platform environments. This role is critical in driving our testing strategy, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring robust, scalable, and user‑friendly applications.

What You’ll Do

Design, implement, and maintain automated test scripts for web and mobile applications using BrowserStack, Selenium/Appium.

Write and execute manual tests for features that cannot be automated.

Leverage Insomnia and ReadyAPI tools to perform API testing and validate back‑office integration within the ecosystem.

Define and enforce quality standards, create test plans, and develop testing strategies for web and mobile app features.

Use BrowserStack to test across multiple platforms (Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox, etc.) and mobile devices, OS versions, and screen resolutions.

Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to ensure continuous delivery of high‑quality applications.

Identify, log, and track defects using JIRA, and work closely with developers to resolve issues efficiently.

Conduct performance testing for web and mobile applications using Apache JMeter, ensuring optimal performance across diverse conditions.

Collaborate with product managers, developers, and QA engineers to understand requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage.

Guide and mentor junior QA engineers in best practices, frameworks, and tools.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

5+ years of experience in software testing, focusing on API, mobile, and web applications.

Proficiency in automated testing tools and frameworks, including BrowserStack, Perfecto, and Insomnia.

Knowledge of app testing on Google Play Store, TestFlight, Firebase, and Apple App Store.

Proficiency with Gherkin.

Programming languages: Java, Python, TypeScript or JavaScript.

Experience developing automated tests using the Page Object Model design pattern.

Experience with BrowserStack or similar cross‑platform testing tools.

Test case management in JIRA and BrowserStack.

Strong understanding of mobile app ecosystems (Android, iOS).

Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Version control experience with Git.

Familiarity with SonarQube for code quality testing.

Experience with Datadog for monitoring.

Proficient in feature‑flag testing using Launch Darkly or similar.

Preferred Qualifications

3+ years of experience developing automated tests for web and mobile applications.

Quality assurance certification.

Test automation certification.
