Buyer I – Supply Chain – Watchmaker Genomics Watchmaker Genomics, an early‑stage life science company based in Boulder, Colorado, designs, develops, and produces DNA‑ and RNA‑modifying enzymes that enable high‑growth applications in genomics, molecular diagnostics, and personalized medicine.

The position is a full‑time Buyer I in our Supply Chain department, reporting to the Global Procurement Manager in Boulder, CO. The base salary ranges from $65,000 to $75,000 per year, with additional bonus and equity compensation.

Responsibilities

Assist team members or management in selecting the appropriate supplier based on value‑cost analysis for materials or services.

Work with Quality Assurance to vet, qualify, and onboard new suppliers; manage the approved supplier list and supplier performance KPIs (quality, on‑time delivery, cost).

Negotiate favorable pricing, request for quote, payment terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers to achieve cost savings.

Maintain effective and proper relations with suppliers and their representatives.

Create, issue, and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery through expediting or delaying as needed.

Procure raw materials, reagents, consumables, and services necessary for R&D and commercial manufacturing operations.

Analyze material output and raw material demand forecast signals from Demand Planning to determine what materials need to be ordered and when.

Collaborate with Demand Planning to review production schedules, making appropriate adjustments to ordering frequency to optimize production and meet service levels.

Analyze the requirements of raw materials and components, including specifications, preferred suppliers, and the date material is needed to support the production schedule.

Maintain timely control of purchase orders and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.

Skills & Requirements The candidate should have at minimum a BS in business, accounting or a related supply chain field, with at least three to four years of relevant industry experience.

Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration (with Manufacturing, QA, Finance, R&D) and supplier management.

Proactive ability to identify and resolve supply chain risks and material shortages.

Exceptional attention to detail and cross‑functional communication skills.

Skilled at building and managing schedules, timelines, and inventory allocation.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to read, write, and edit working documents.

Ability to multitask, work at a high standard, perform consistently under pressure with predetermined deadlines, and work without supervision.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as an effective team member.

High level of self‑motivation and initiative.

A creative and disciplined approach to problem‑solving.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field.

4+ years of experience in a buying, procurement, or planning role, preferably within the Biotech, Pharmaceutical, or Medical Device industry.

Compensation & Benefits The base compensation for the Buyer I role starts at $65,000–$75,000 per year, plus bonus and equity.
