Job Description
Primary Responsibility
The adjunct faculty members of Colorado Mountain College are expected to assist students in their learning process by utilizing appropriate staff resources, materials, facilities, and educational technologies available. Faculty should be committed to facilitating learning throughout our communities and engage in scholarly endeavors, service activities, and pedagogical innovation to extend academic opportunities to all students. The college seeks innovative facilitators of learning who are active in teaching, passionate about positive classroom experiences, and dedicated to excellent outcomes for all students.
Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)
A minimum of a master’s degree in a field related to the specific program being recruited or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credits in a related field (e.g., business, finance, management, marketing).
Minimum one-year full‑time teaching experience or equivalent as an adjunct instructor; higher education teaching experience preferred.
An equivalent or applicable combination of education and experience to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Special skills or abilities directly applicable to the position: knowledge of pedagogy, at least two years of teaching experience, strong background in computers and technology, excellent organizational and office skills, and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities.
Essential Duties
Teach assigned courses and prepare appropriate lesson plans in accordance with course objectives.
Develop and submit course outlines and syllabi to the supervisor.
Assist in developing measurable course objectives and plans.
Develop a professional relationship with students and staff that encourages communication.
Maintain accurate course records and complete necessary course forms.
Be available for student consultation.
Assist in recruiting students, as appropriate.
Assist in evaluating curriculum and instructional performance.
Represent the college in a professional manner and promote a positive public image.
Engage in professional development for credentialing.
CMC Faculty are expected to engage in scholarly and creative activities that enhance discipline expertise and learning. Service activities include campus and college committees, relevant projects, mentoring, assessment activities, program review, student organization support, and recruiting and retention efforts.
Supervision of the Position This position will report to the Assistant Dean of Instruction or designee in alignment with discipline deans.
Supervisory Responsibility The position may supervise student employees. Special conditions of employment include successful completion of a background check and, when applicable, motor vehicle records. Incumbents will adhere to all safety and compliance policies while performing all duties assigned. The role may require travel and evening, weekend, or other irregular hours.
Working Conditions This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing, driving, pushing/pulling objects, frequent reaching with hands and arms, and use of finger movements. Occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs. Communication, reasoning, analysis, and calculations are frequent. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
