Park Ranger / Park Ranger Assistant Providing a Safe Environment for Fun & Relaxation. The Department of Resource Management is a comprehensive agency comprised of the Public Works, Building and Safety, Planning Services, Environmental Health Services, Parks, and Administrative Services Divisions. The department provides for the well‑being of Solano County’s residents and the public at large through administration and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws and policies pertaining to transportation, building construction, land‑use planning, environmental health, and recreation.

The Parks & Recreation Division is the steward of Solano County’s natural and cultural resources. The Division creates safe environments and showcases the County’s facilities so visitors can enjoy a diverse range of recreational experiences.

Position Overview The Park Ranger Assistants learn how to use the proper tools to perform routine grounds‑maintenance work in County parks, enforce County Park regulations, and keep parks clean and safe. This is the entry‑level position in the Park Ranger class series.

Responsibilities

Perform routine grounds‑maintenance work in County parks.

Enforce County Park regulations and maintain park safety.

Keep the parks clean and safe through routine maintenance and inspection.

Assist and inform park visitors regarding park rules and facilities.

Participate in a collaborative spirit with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will have experience working independently with a proactive approach to working with support staff and the visiting public.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with special skills in effective delivery of enforcement messages and de‑escalation.

Land stewardship practices.

Compensation and Education/Experience Requirements Park Ranger Assistant $26.43 - $32.13 hourly

Education:

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Experience:

Six months of experience in grounds‑keeping or semi‑skilled maintenance work that includes considerable contact with the public.

Park Ranger $34.40 - $41.82 hourly

Education:

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Experience:

One year of experience in park operations, grounds‑keeping, or semi‑skilled maintenance work that includes substantial contact with the public; or one year performing duties equivalent to the Solano County class of Park Ranger Assistant.

Selection Process Deadline to submit application: 11/03/2025, 5:00pm. Qualified applicants may be invited for further examination. The selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a supplemental questionnaire assessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. A minimum score of 70% is required to continue in the selection process. All potential new hires will be subject to background and reference checks after a contingent job offer is accepted. Retirees may be subject to hiring restrictions.

Additional Information Veteran preference points apply to applicants who have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty with an honorable or general discharge. Disabled veterans rated at not less than 30% disability receive ten points added to their combined score. Veteran preference points will only be added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
