Role Summary The Aptitude Tech 2 will possess a higher level of knowledge and experience on a variety of technical installations, understand and meet project schedules, and oversee a small crew in addition to completing personal tasks. All activities support the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core

Installs, terminates, troubleshoots and documents test results for Category cable cabling and fiber optic lines using industry testers and CAT6 A/V cables on patch panels and RJ-45 plugs.

Installs cable pathway systems (cable trays, data racks, patch panels, etc.).

Installs, terminates, tests, labels, and documents low voltage cabling infrastructure and fiber optic cables.

Installs server racks and equipment in MDF/IDF closets; organizes cabling with D-rings, O-rings, clamps, and organizers.

Responsible for installation of Structured Cabling, Category 6 and 6A, Optical Fiber, RG-6, RG-11.

Adds or repairs cabling/jacks and fires-stop various cable penetrations.

Dresses and routes fiber and Category cable into data closets, modular furniture, and work areas.

Participates in safety activities and supports an injury-free environment.

Works with installation tools to complete tasks; maintains tools and equipment for project needs.

Understands crew production goals and established quality levels.

Participates in safety activities such as toolbox talks, job hazard analyses, job site analyses, and SIMS reporting.

Updates punch lists and participates in related documentation.

Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core In addition, this position will be responsible for the following:

Provides oversight of structured cabling projects, implementations, and initiatives.

Gives on-the-job guidance and shares subject matter expertise to support team learning.

Schedules/coordinates activities of internal resources such as Engineers and Field Services Technicians.

Predicts resources needed to reach objectives and manages resources accordingly.

Coordinates, tracks, and inventories materials; orders and RMAs.

Resolves and escalates project issues impacting provisioning as needed.

Schedules/coordinates resources for end-user and system administration training.

Installs structured cabling systems including pathways, spaces, horizontal cabling, backbone copper/fiber, cross and inter-connections, and testing; understands applicable codes, standards, and best practices.

Routes cabling through various building types, creates new pathways from MDF to IDF closets and to rooftops by coring and using EMT conduit, sleeves, and PVC.

Terminates, tests, labels, and documents horizontal and backbone cables.

Oversees cutover execution and post-cutover test plans.

Partners with project team to document and address open punch-list issues.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to listen carefully and follow instructions.

Knowledge of outside plant cabling (OSP), aerial and direct buried.

Knowledge of fiber fusion splicing and optics; coaxial termination experience.

Safety compliance awareness for general and cabling-specific requirements.

Ability to learn from senior team members and demonstrate teamwork and versatility.

High attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and self-motivation to work independently or as part of a team.

Physical ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and work on tall structures.

Ability to select appropriate tools and methods and guide others in doing the same.

Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and specifications; build relationships and collaborate internally and externally.

Knowledge of Lean processes and labor productivity concepts.

Education

High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Vocational/Technical degree in related field (Preferred)

Experience

2+ years commercial construction experience

2+ years experience in Structured Cabling

Experience in specialized technical courses or equivalent work experience a plus

Electrician apprenticeship and low voltage experience a plus

Must have experience in MDF/IDF design and termination

Experience in active hyperscale facilities and safety/security protocols (Preferred)

Experience with large-scale cutovers, migrations, or turn-ups in live data center environments (Preferred)

Working Environment

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

May require periods of travel

Exposure to extreme conditions (hot or cold)

Willingness to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs

Frequent activity: Standing, Walking, Climbing, Bending, Reaching above shoulder, Pushing, Pulling

Occasional activity: Sitting, Viewing computer screen
