This is an open recruitment for multiple full-time Corrections Officer vacancies at the NH State Prison for Men. The position is armed and carries Hazardous Duty Pay of $60 biweekly (not included in the listed salary).
Trainee Status:
This position is offered with Trainee Status at a pay rate of $25.17 per hour. The candidate must meet the minimum qualifications within one (1) year of the hire date.
Responsibilities
Maintain security in buildings, towers, and other posts of an adult correctional facility; respond to emergencies or altercations and gain physical control of offenders.
Supervise, escort, and/or transport offenders; conduct counts and searches of offenders and living quarters for contraband.
Supervise housing units and offenders during work, recreational, and religious activities; conduct health and safety inspections.
Perform searches of residents, visitors, housing, buildings, and property to prevent contraband and weapons.
Conduct interviews and obtain statements from victims, witnesses, suspects, and other involved parties; prepare tracking, reports, and documentation for disciplinary and mitigation proceedings.
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or high school equivalency credential.
Experience:
Six months of experience as a Corrections Officer or its equivalent in law enforcement, police work, or the military.
License/Certification:
Valid driver’s license.
Other Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years old; ability to use firearms and demonstrate proficiency by passing weapons qualifications annually; must complete Corrections Academy training and obtain certification during probationary period; must pass physical agility test demonstrating ability to perform essential tasks; after conditional offer, must pass a comprehensive medical examination at the state’s expense.
Trainee Option:
Candidates with an equivalent combination of high school diploma and no prior experience may be hired in trainee status.
