Solid Waste Worker - Recycling & Litter Services Division

Purpose

We have plenty at the City of Savannah! Apply today to become a Solid Waste Worker. As a Solid Waste Worker, you will be responsible for the collection of residential refuse, yard waste, bulk items, recyclable materials and/or the removal of litter from City streets, lanes and rights‑of‑way.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs manual labor in day‑to‑day Sanitation Department operations.
• Serves as a spotter to assist truck operator in safely backing up and maneuvering in congested spaces.
• May assist truck operator with determining correct routes.
• Operates hydraulic lift and press.
• Maintains inventory of tools assigned to the truck.
• Collects household refuse.
• Directs traffic as needed.
• Collects recyclable materials.
• Collects litter; changes litter baskets.
• Collects yard waste, bulk items, and dead animals.
• Cleans vehicles and equipment at end of route.
• Assembles, delivers, repairs, cleans, and collects refuse carts as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• No prior experience required.
• Requires the ability to lift items up to forty (40) pounds.
• Background investigation, supervised drug screen, post‑employment medical screen, and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required before employment.

Work Hours: Varies
