Essential Job Duties As a Living and Learning Village Director, you will manage the day‑to‑day operations of a residential environment for approximately 730 first‑year engineering students. You will partner with the College of Engineering and other campus partners to promote learning aligned with the First Year Engineering Program and the Residence Education Model (REM).
Key Duties:
Teaching/Instruction (10%): Teach sections of E101 (Introduction to Engineering and Problem Solving) and E102 (Engineering in the 21st Century).
Administration (25%): Oversee budget, recruitment, operations, maintain MakerSpace, update marketing/website/social media, lead the Advisory Council.
Supervision (20%): Supervise, train, and evaluate 5–21 Village Mentors, Lab Assistants, and a Graduate Assistant.
Village Mission & Student Development (15%): Cultivate intentional interactions, assess the Village experience, develop and implement experiential programs aligned with REM.
Partnership Development (10%): Lead Advisory Council meetings, cultivate interdisciplinary and strategic partnerships.
Open and Welcoming Community (10%): Create a welcoming community and advocate as a role model.
Crisis and Resident Behavior (5%): Support crisis response, restorative justice, and mental health resources.
Direct reports to the Associate Director for Living Learning Programs and support initiatives from First Year Engineering Programs and the College of Engineering. Success is evaluated through a data‑driven assessment plan.
Other Responsibilities
Handle confidential information and adhere to FERPA.
Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act and as a Responsible Employee under Title IX.
May temporarily serve as a mandatory supervisor during adverse weather or critical emergencies.
May provide support to University Housing during transition periods.
Reporting Structure:
Primary – Director of Living and Learning Initiatives; Secondary – Director, Student Engagement (College of Engineering).
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs, Student Counseling, College Student Development, or Career Counseling.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or STEM‑related field.
1–2 years post‑Master’s experience in Higher Education or Student Affairs, with demonstrated work with STEM students, supervision/mentoring, and large‑scale program administration.
Other Required Qualifications
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong commitment to student growth and development.
Ability to work collaboratively across cultures and styles.
Ability to build consensus and maintain relationships.
Excellent time‑management and prioritization skills.
Demonstrated leadership and personnel management of student staff.
Preferred Qualifications
3–5 years post‑Master’s experience in higher‑education student affairs or counseling.
Relevant experience with living and learning communities or Village content area.
Required License(s) or Certification(s) No required license or certification.
Valid NC Driver's License required No.
Commercial Driver's License required No.
