Job description for the Tax Manager, State and Local Tax - Unclaimed Property at BDO USA. The role focuses on advising clients on tax implications and other accounting matters with an emphasis on unclaimed property compliance and consulting. Responsibilities
Advise clients on tax implications and other accounting matters affecting business objectives, with an emphasis on unclaimed property compliance and consulting. Utilize project management, reconciliation, financial auditing and accounting skills in a consultative capacity to work with sporadic data sets that are analyzed and modeled. Provide SALT expertise to clients and collaborate with Core Tax and Audit Partners, Directors, and Senior Managers. Lead project management, presentations to clients and states, coordinating compliance, audit defense and VDAs, and other consulting engagements. Manage client expectations and deliverables, marketing, networking, and business development; recognize potential changes in unclaimed property policy and apply new policies to engagements. Contribute to development of consultative selling strategies and accurate engagement management, including ensuring engagement letters are adopted prior to work commencing. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Bachelor’s degree, required; focus in Accounting preferred. Five (5) or more years of experience in tax, financial statement auditing, internal auditing or forensic accounting in a public accounting firm or in-house organization. Prior supervisory experience, required. CPA certification, Attorney admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction, or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) or equivalent required. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word; experience with Power BI, Alteryx and other software preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; superior analytical and research skills; strong organizational abilities and ability to meet project deadlines. Ability to multi-task and work independently or in a team; capability to manage a team of tax professionals and delegate work; build and maintain client relationships; and act as primary contact on engagements.
