South Central Region Drinking Water Market Sector Leader

The South Central Region Drinking Water Market Sector Leader will lead the development and implementation of business strategies across the South Central Region in coordination with Regional Business Group leadership, operational leadership, client managers and Business Class Directors. The Leader reports to the Drinking Water Market Sector Director and collaborates with Water Business Group Client Development leadership to create and monitor communication across the region to implement strategic and key project delivery plans and marketing opportunities for the market sector. The role supports and collaborates across areas and business lines to grow services within the market sector.
Primary Responsibilities The South Central Region Drinking Water Market Sector Leader will:
Lead development and execution of regional business strategies in coordination with Regional leadership and client managers.
Communicate regularly across the region to implement strategic plans and market opportunities.
Collaborate with other areas and business lines to advance growth in the Drinking Water Market Sector.
Drinking Water Market Sector Overview Within the Water Business Group, the Drinking Water Market Sector is a technical and diversified service offering for local municipalities, private entities, water utilities, and governmental clients in the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East. HDR has a long-standing presence in water supply and treatment with a broad range of services including master planning, strategic advisory, transmission and distribution, water treatment and reuse, construction management and inspection, asset management, and operations support.
Business Development Responsibilities The South Central Region Drinking Water Market Sector Leader provides substantial support in assessing the Region’s marketplace and determining optimal technical strategies to win contracts and expand business. Activities may extend across sectors and regions. Responsibilities include:
Align sector strategies with overall HDR vision and gain market share.
Serve as Client Manager for selected key clients and maintain visibility in the industry.
Promote HDR services to Drinking Water clients within the South Central Region.
Participate as a member of the Regional Water Business Group Management Team.
Collaborate with Regional Business Group Managers to develop and deliver sector initiatives.
Support client development, pursue strategies, and guide pursuit processes using proven capture techniques.
Provide direct support to pursuits through client relationship development and strategic differentiation.
Engage in industry associations in leadership roles and model HDR values in business and community organizations.
Identify investments to maintain HDR’s leadership position.
Support Area marketing capabilities and market sector goals.
Develop relationships with industry counterparts and with senior leadership in key client organizations.
Staff Development Responsibilities The Leader seeks opportunities to enhance performance to win new work and provide staff growth. Activities include aligning staff and projects to deepen skills, mentoring, recruitment, and working with practice groups to promote technical excellence and HDR’s Drive to Zero initiative.
Lead in staff development, recruitment, and talent management.
Coordinate work-sharing and provide support for Area work-sharing efforts within the region and broader Water Business Group.
Drive technical excellence and coordinate staff to ensure quality delivery.
Identify needs for new technical services and products to expand HDR’s capabilities.
Coordinate staffing and recruiting plans for key hires and address resource gaps.
Support to Operations Support Region and Area leadership in key project delivery within the market sector. Responsibilities include driving client management, serving as Principal in Charge on key projects, supporting QA/QC, facilitating collaboration, and driving process improvements. Manage workload, promote efficient use of resources, and assist with contract reviews and risk management. Engage in the PARR process and promote QA/QC, and share lessons learned and best practices.
Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 20+ years of experience in drinking water planning and engineering design, client development, and project management; most experience with drinking water utilities and public/private clients.
Bachelor’s degree in an accredited civil or environmental engineering program.
Professional engineering registration in one or more Central region states.
Experience in strategic positioning and technical differentiation for planning or engineering services.
Experience in developing and managing client relationships and pursuits.
Experience in staff development, recruiting, and career path planning.
Active involvement with industry associations and a visible market-sector profile.
Ability to work cooperatively with HDR leadership across multiple levels.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, engineering, planning, or related field.
Minimum 10 years of industry experience.
Experience in strategic marketing programs for architecture, engineering, or planning services.
Experience in client relationships and program/project pursuits.
Experience in staff development, recruiting, and professional growth.
Active involvement with industry associations and a visible market-sector profile.
Ability to work cooperatively with HDR leadership and regional teams.
