This Role In Summary As a Lead Studio Engineer you will partner with Engineering, Manufacturing and Brand Studio Design staff across all product categories. You will provide leadership in developing great-looking, innovative products that are feasible from engineering and manufacturing standpoints. The role requires consistency across product categories and the ability to collaborate to develop engineering solutions that support operational excellence and that customers will prize. You should have knowledge of technological advancements in materials and processes and be able to propose and lead innovative solutions while keeping Craftsmanship in product feasibility discussions. Responsibilities

Create Creo aesthetic models and master assemblies (with embedded Class A surfaces) that capture the design intent for handoff to engineering departments. Resolve structural, mechanical, and/or electrical configurations. Lead toward convergence on final design approaches. Integrate design intent, engineering specifications, and marketing requests into product designs. Resolve manufacturability, cost, and aesthetic issues. Provide expertise and leadership for engineering feasibility and change management of Class A surface programs, with the Lead Surface Engineer and Lead Industrial Designer. Lead product/process critiques regarding engineering feasibility. Oversee studio engineering activity for designated projects and ensure technical integrity of the design product. Support and assist Industrial Designers in product development. Build and maintain partnerships between design and internal process partners. Support model building and show properties with technical expertise. Supervise studio engineers attached to projects, delegating work and overseeing performance. Balance multiple major projects and allocate work across teams. Review design layouts, including packaging and human factors information. Track issues through the design process and communicate changes affecting product design. Organize digital data and ensure transmission to engineering at suitable milestones. Act as an active member of the core studio team for planning, resourcing, and scheduling. Contribute to development of studio engineering processes within Whirlpool Product Development. Provide engineering support for craftsmanship improvements and represent design disciplines (SE, 3D, ID, Craftsmanship). Minimum Requirements

A four-year mechanical engineering degree or equivalent, with eight or more years of related experience. Or a two-year technical degree with ten or more years of related experience. Or twelve or more years of engineering experience. Or an engineering design certificate with eleven or more years of related experience. At least 5 years of experience in studio engineering is preferred. Related experience in Automotive, Aerospace, Appliance, or Consumer Products industries. 5+ years in product design activities working with industrial designers, engineers, and vendors in new product development. Strong 3D modeling skills using Creo, Catia, SolidWorks, etc. Creo preferred. Experience in developing class A surfaces is an additional advantage. Experience in steel fabrication (folded, stamped, machined and cast steel parts) and plastic production processes (injection, co-injection, two-shot molding, in-mold laminates, blow molding and vacuum forming, plastic welding).
