This position supports the LANL nuclear mission by implementing nuclear facility engineering regulatory requirements and by performing system, design, safety, and project engineering responsibilities related to nuclear facilities and fire protection systems. What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Nuclear Facilities Engineer 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. Responsibilities include: Perform system engineering, design engineering, project engineering, safety basis and nuclear criticality functions related to LANL facilities. Define requirements for nuclear facilities, safety systems, operations equipment, procedures, test and acceptance requirements, and quality requirements. Integrate with program, operations, maintenance, document control, and project management personnel to ensure facility requirements are met for safe, secure, and effective LANL mission accomplishment. Identify and lead activities within a nuclear facility engineering discipline; work independently and in teams; apply broad nuclear facility engineering knowledge to deliverables; utilize engineering technology to improve processes. The candidate may be a qualified Fire Protection Engineer or a different engineering discipline (e.g., Mechanical) with demonstrated experience or willingness to support Fire Protection systems. What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements: Technical Expertise Knowledge of analysis and calculations techniques to support engineered solutions. Ability to communicate engineering solutions verbally and in writing with management, customers, peers, and maintenance personnel. Working knowledge of Microsoft software products (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.). Education/Experience For Nuclear Facilities Engineer 1: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from ABET-accredited college/university and 0–2 years of related experience. Advanced engineering degree is highly desired. Fundaments of Engineering exam is desired. For Nuclear Facilities Engineer 2: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from ABET-accredited college/university and a minimum of 3 years of related experience. Advanced engineering degree is highly desired. Demonstration of having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is desired. Desired Qualifications: DOE Orders and Standards knowledge. Engineering design process knowledge. Facility/system engineering processes knowledge. Design development and execution processes knowledge. Electrical and/or mechanical applications relevant to fire protection systems. Essential Functions and Work Environment

Essential Job Functions: general mobility (standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending), use of both hands/arms/legs/feet, and ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Work Environment: noisy environments; proximity to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, machinery with moving parts; possible overtime or irregular schedules. Work Location and Commitment

The work location for this position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible for posted jobs Laboratory-wide. The position commitment for this role is 1 year. Note to Applicants
