Overview
Attorney - Regulatory at Atmos Energy. This role supports the development and execution of regulatory legal strategy for natural gas distribution utility operations in eight states and an intrastate pipeline in Texas, aligning with the Company’s vision of being the safest provider of natural gas services and its safety culture. Responsibilities
Assist in the development and execution of regulatory legal strategy in support of natural gas distribution utility operations in eight states and an intrastate pipeline located in Texas, in a manner that aligns with the Company’s safety culture. Provide advice and counsel to all levels of management on legal and regulatory issues, including utility regulation and the development/revisions of plans, policies, and practices. Draft and review contracts including interconnect, gas supply, and transportation agreements with customers with a focus on regulatory compliance. Direct and coordinate outside counsel and expert witnesses in regulatory proceedings; develop trial/hearing strategy and assist in rate case preparation and presentation. Perform general legal research on various issues and concerns. Analyze pending and current legislation and advise relevant parties of court and administrative decisions affecting the Company and the natural gas industry. Work with Company personnel to identify DOT PHMSA compliance activities and develop processes to meet related requirements. Interact professionally with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders. Minimum Requirements
Four-year undergraduate degree and law degree from an accredited school Licensed to practice law in a jurisdiction of the United States Four years of professional legal experience Strongly preferred
3-5 years of relevant experience in rate cases for a regulated public utility in natural gas or other rate-regulated industries Experience appearing before state public service commissions and/or the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Skills
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Requires the ability to communicate, persuade and influence internal and/or external customers at a high level on technical and complex matters. NUMERIC SKILLS: Ability to perform basic arithmetic. COMPUTER SKILLS: Basic computer skills for data entry, reference and retrieval tasks. Physical and Work Requirements
