The Irondale Center, located within the historical Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church in Fort Greene Brooklyn, serves as a creative and dynamic flexible theater space, playing a vital role in a growing cultural district. Role Description Irondale Productions Inc. is seeking an Assistant to the Technical Director (ATD), based out of NYC. Irondale Productions Inc. was founded in 1983 as an experimental theater company. Since its inception, Irondale has strived to not only produce works of art for our community but also to give back with free programs such as our To Protect Serve and Understand program, Young Company (Free Acting Classes for Youths), Tech Track (Free Tech and Design Classes for Youth), and more. The theater space itself, located at 85 South Oxford Street, Brooklyn, NY, is a rental venue. We proudly host over three hundred events annually in our historic theater. The ATD works closely with the TD, and works directly with all external groups and artists. They will oversee all production elements of our resident company’s ensemble productions. The ATD position is a full-time job. Weekly hours are flexible to accommodate the ATD’s necessary presence in the space. Responsibilities Oversee and attend to the overall safety, health, and physical conditions of The Space At Irondale Oversee the build/development of scenic, prop, lighting, and audio, for new productions with the Irondale Production Company. Oversee the fiscal budget alongside Irondale’s Managing Director and Space Manager. Create and maintain technical riders, documentation, and inventories for each production and for the rental packet. Develop and oversee the maintenance plans for the theater space, which will meet or exceed all safety requirements and industry standards. Develop and manage load-in and load-out plans for each Irondale Production. Coordinate with renters to plan for load-in, load-out, requirements, expectations, additional staffing requirements, and other needs as requested. Maintain and organize Irondale’s storage and inventory. Review and respond to all rehearsal and performance report notes applying to scenic, props, sound, or lighting during production season. Review and respond to all rehearsal and performance report notes from rental productions. Ensure all technical files and documentation is properly filed or archived for older productions. Recruit, manage, and train all production and front of house crew personnel. Coordinate with the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church (Irondale’s landlord), to ensure good relations are continued. Ensure that all regulations set forth in the Shared Occupancy Agreement are upheld. Ensure Fire Log and all fire safety features are up to NYC and local code. Create shifts and staff all Irondale events, and ensure rental events are also staffed using the software WhenIWork. Communicate with rental groups and staff and oversee their productions during their agreement. Other duties as assigned. Skills and Experience Needed 2-5 years of experience leading or managing the technical side of the creative process for a theater company, e.g. Technical Director, Production Manager, or Production Stage Manager. Experience working as part of a team Competency in the following areas: Carpentry, electrician, and light programming skills. Knowledge of QLab. Ability to use and troubleshoot audiovisual equipment. Strong collaboration and negotiation skills for diverse teams. Problem-solving and Project Management. Proficiency in Google Suite software. People management experience for desired outcomes. The ability to manage budgets. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred but not required Building and maintaining rigging systems and automated scenery. Develop and draft light plots. Compensation and Location The Assistant to the Technical Director will receive a salary of $49,400 annually. Irondale provides two (2) weeks of paid vacation annually. The Irondale Office is located at our theater location at 85 South Oxford St., Brooklyn NY, 11217. The Technical Director will be granted a work phone with their desk.
