Purpose statement:
The Director of Environment of Care is responsible for the overall maintenance and compliance of the buildings, grounds, fixtures, and equipment of the facility. Areas of responsibility may include two or more of the following functional areas: safety, security, maintenance, facilities, materials management, and housekeeping. Serves as the organization’s emergency management and safety officer. Supervises and coordinates activities of the department staff. Responsibilities
Oversee the maintenance and safety of the facility to ensure compliance with life safety standards (OSHA, OHFLAC, TJC, fire marshal, health departments, and other regulatory agencies). Manage general building maintenance including plumbing, carpentry, painting, roofing, minor repairs, and electrical work. Ensure projects are completed timely, safely, and within budget; uphold high cleaning and safety standards. Conduct regular environment of care inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and compliance issues; maintain facility safety records. Ensure preventative maintenance and documentation for all equipment and systems, including vehicles, housekeeping equipment, water systems, electrical systems, fire alarm systems, and HVAC systems. Lead a team through hiring, orientation, performance assessment and management, training, scheduling, and coaching to meet department goals. Maintain the interior and exterior of buildings and grounds in all seasons; be available for snow removal and transportation during inclement weather as needed. Coordinate and participate in fire safety and disaster drills and annual fire safety training. Determine needs for equipment, materials, and supplies; manage inventories. Coordinate regulatory inspections with outside agencies and supervise work performed by internal and external teams to ensure standards are met. Plan and monitor the maintenance budget and seek opportunities to decrease costs while maintaining quality services. Lead internal and external emergency management programs and respond to facility fire and disaster situations per emergency plans. Manage outside service vendors/contractors and coordinate all work with external contractors as required. Maintain an up-to-date MSDS database at all times. Education/Experience/Skill Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a technical field or two or more years of college-level construction trade education preferred. At least five years of experience in maintenance or facility operations required; health care facility experience preferred. Knowledge of standard and safe maintenance practices, procedures, and tools in general building/maintenance trades. Licenses/Designations/Certifications
Certification or licensure in trades such as electrical, plumbing, or HVAC preferred. Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) certification a plus. Valid state driver’s license (if required by state and facility). CPR certification and de-escalation training may be required (training available upon hire and offered by the facility). First aid may be required based on state or facility. Supervisory Requirements
Three or more years of construction/maintenance supervision/management experience required. Essential Functions

Inspects completed work to ensure standards are met and that the facility is sanitary, attractive, safe, and orderly. Plans and monitors the maintenance budget and seeks cost efficiencies without compromising quality.
