Position Details
Full-time: 40 hours
Pay: $33.62
Location: 37th & O St NW Washington, DC 20057
The Plumber performs building trades work in maintaining plumbing and heating, and hot water systems, and installs new plumbing and heating fixtures and related components as part of the services provided by the Facilities Management area to maintain University buildings. Services include, but are not limited to:
Oversee all standard plumbing, heating, and hot water systems (including low, medium and high pressure steam lines) work.
Perform journeyman level maintenance and repairs in accordance with industry/trade practices.
Work in zone areas to assist zones and other assigned areas and provide daily maintenance support to building users, including responses to calls for service, scheduled preventative maintenance inspections, and similar service.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled or special work such as overhauls, replacements of all types of pumps, valves (water and steam) and piping systems replacements.
Manage survey projects, being on-call status 24 hours a day to respond to emergency calls.
Use all standard tools, equipment, materials, and supplies of the trade and observe all safety rules, regulations, and precautions in performing duties.
Work Interactions This position reports directly to the Mechanical Shop Supervisor along with other plumbers, HVAC mechanics and trades helpers. The work of the incumbents provides a direct service to the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn and work.
Requirements and Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Four to five years of related experience in the trade; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications
Must have a Journeyman card
Must have a valid operator's license
Requires completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training in the plumbing trade
Must possess a medical card and/or certificate issued by the Department of Transportation (DOT) for operating University commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10K+ as defined in GU Vehicle Policy 1017 and DOT Regulations 391.11 (4) - Medical Card / Certificate and 390.5 (1).
