Job Responsibilities

Perform building trades work maintaining plumbing and heating, hot water systems, installing new plumbing, heating fixtures and related components as part of Facilities Management.

Oversee all standard plumbing, heating, and hot water systems (including low, medium and high pressure steam lines) work.

Perform journey level maintenance and repairs in accordance with industry/trade practices.

Assist zones and provide daily maintenance support to building users, including responses to calls for service, scheduled preventative maintenance inspections, and similar service.

Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled or special work such as overhauls, replacements of all types of pumps, valves (water and steam) and piping systems replacements.

Manage survey projects, being on‑call 24 hours a day to respond to emergency calls.

Use standard tools, equipment, materials, and supplies of the trade and observe all safety rules and regulations.

Work Interactions This position reports directly to the Mechanical Shop Supervisor along with other plumbers, HVAC mechanics and trades helpers. The work of the incumbents provides direct service to the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn and work.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Four to five years of related experience in the trade, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Journeyman card.

Valid operator’s license.

Completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training in the plumbing trade.
