Responsibilities
Function independently to provide direct and indirect patient care based on the nursing process for the Neuro-Oncology Service in the H.H. Chao Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Serve as the primary contact for oncology patients; provide education to patients and families related to cancer care, diagnostic procedures, medications/chemotherapy, and other aspects of the plan of care.
Incorporate psycho-motor and age-appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other, utilizing knowledge of patient assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
Ensure the continuum of care includes pre-procedure, chemotherapy protocols, hospitalization, anticipated discharge needs, and follow-up in physician offices.
Support faculty in the clinic for every patient care session.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Current CA RN license
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Minimum 6 months experience as an RN in an Inpatient or Outpatient Oncology setting OR 1 year of clinical experience with recent completion of the Oncology Nursing Society cancer basics class within the previous year
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (for external candidates)
Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with institutional policies
Preferred Qualifications:
Oncology/Hematologic malignancies patient population knowledge
Oncology Nurse Certification
Knowledge of complications associated with hematologic oncology conditions
Experience with immunosuppressive therapies and post-transplant care
Bilingual abilities to communicate with patients and families
