CONTROLLER for MEDIUM SIZED (75MM) RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY with growth to CFO — Flower Construction Join to apply for the Controller role at Flower Construction. This position is for a growing residential construction company in the New York metro area and South Florida. The role leads day-to-day accounting operations and will grow with the company toward CFO responsibilities. Company Background
Flower Construction builds custom-commissioned single-family homes in the New York metro area and in South Florida. Established by John Flower, we have been in business for over 28 years and expanded into the Florida market 3 years ago. Responsibilities
Oversees day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger. Manages accounting staff – 2-3 Construction Admins, 1 Bookkeeper and 1 payroll manager. Ensures timely and accurate distribution of client AIA/T&M billings and coordinates review and approval by architect/owner’s representative. Maintains job cost accounting systems to ensure accurate tracking of project budgets, variances and profitability. Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements (reconciliation of Income Statement to WIP, Balance Sheet review, monitor AP/AR, book depreciation). Coordinates accounting and tax reporting with outside accounting firm. Cash management – review and book bank reconciliations. Insurance – review and maintain current policies for proper coverage. Sales & Use Tax – review and adjust status as needed. Controller duties

Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and related reconciliations. Growth into CFO duties
Oversees company finances and controllers of two entities: Flowcon, Inc. (Summit, NJ) and Flower and Company (West Palm Beach), doing business as Flower Construction. Develops internal controls, policies and procedures to safeguard company assets. Forecasts profit/loss and cash flows; develops dashboards and financial reports to provide insights to management. Leads annual budgeting process with project managers, estimating and leadership team. Addresses compliance correspondence from federal, state, and local agencies. Coordinates annual insurance audit and external audits as needed. Evaluates personnel and staffing needs for Accounting/Admin groups and participates in hiring/training/mentoring as needed. Monitors working capital, banking relationships and loan/supplier credit compliance for both offices. Acts as chief risk officer, identifying and addressing risks (e.g., licensing, tax, insurance, labor requirements) and project risks (e.g., burn rates, unsigned change orders). Evaluates and optimizes accounting software, ERP systems and technology tools; implements best practices in job costing, project billing, subcontractor compliance, and WIP reporting. Drives process efficiencies to support growth and scalability. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred). 7–10+ years of accounting/finance experience, including at least 3 years in construction or related industry. Strong knowledge of GAAP, construction accounting, WIP schedules, and job costing. Experience with ERP/accounting software common in construction (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint Vista, Procore integration, QuickBooks Enterprise). Proven leadership skills with ability to manage and develop a small accounting team. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
