What You’ll Do A student school day is around 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (8:00 a.m. start for teachers; end times may vary by school). Project Time: Teach 90-minute blocks in high school or four 55-minute blocks in middle school, per day of project time. Most teachers teach one course for the entire grade and see each section twice per week. Teachers work with students on projects that develop cognitive skills and apply their content knowledge to real-world situations. Facilitate discussions, coach students in applying cognitive skills, and provide feedback. Between teaching blocks, analyze student data, build lesson plans, support school culture, and engage in personal development activities. Build lesson plans through a deep understanding of student progress data to determine the needed supports for student success. Mentor Time: Meet daily with a small group of mentees for the entirety of your time at Summit. Develop habits of success as a group and check in one-on-one with mentees. Mentor and advocate inside and outside the classroom to support students’ sense of purpose as self-directed learners. Self-Directed Learning Time and Interventions: Facilitate Self-Directed Learning time and daily literacy or math interventions, which do not involve lesson planning. Provide student support, monitor progress, and check in with individuals or groups. Collaboration & Professional Development: Twice a week, participate in all-faculty after-school meetings for community decisions, professional development, and grade- or subject-level collaboration. Teaching Credential in Washington or another US state. Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree in Education preferred but not required). Clear health and background check.
