The role supports the Court's mission of ensuring equal justice under law and requires significant experience with appellate writing and legal research. Responsibilities

Draft recommendations and proposed dispositions for assigned cases, memorandum opinions, judgments, orders, and decisions for review. Assist the Court with rulemaking authority and provide staff support for rulemaking committees, boards, and commissions. Screen pro se petitions for jurisdictional and procedural prerequisites; respond to correspondence, emails, and telephone inquiries from pro se litigants, inmates, attorneys, and the public. Review motions, docketing statements, briefs, and assist in resolving pending appeals; draft calendar recommendations, notices, orders, and opinions. Perform legal research using various print and electronic sources; analyze briefs, records, and cited authorities; edit findings of fact and conclusions of law. Draft memoranda of law, proposed opinions and orders for administrative and de novo appeals, including complex areas of law (e.g., water, oil and gas, taxation, employment, zoning). May supervise, mentor, and train staff; may assist with personnel issues and compliance with employment laws and policies. May assist with Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Invitations to Bid (ITBs); may serve on statewide or local committees and provide training at conferences. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

The successful applicant should demonstrate knowledge of: United States and New Mexico constitutions, federal law, New Mexico case law, statutes, rules, policies, and procedures; rules of Criminal and Civil procedures, rules of Appellate Procedure, rules of evidence, and the Code of Judicial/Professional Conduct. Legal analysis, writing, proofreading and editing; court case management systems; supervisory techniques; conflict resolution; and the ability to balance practical and legal considerations. Appellate Attorney - Associate (U):

Must be a graduate of an ABA-accredited law school and hold a license to practice law in New Mexico. Experience: Five (5) years in the practice of applicable law or as a law clerk. Appellate Attorney - Senior (U):

Must be a graduate of an ABA-accredited law school and hold a license to practice law in New Mexico. Experience: Seven (7) years in the practice of applicable law; if supervising one legal staff employee, additional supervisory experience may apply. Work is performed in an office or court setting. A valid driver’s license and travel may be required. Schedule may include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
